Northern Ireland Frontline Network – Addiction, Complex Needs and Dual Diagnosis

On Thursday, 22 October 2026, the NI Frontline Network will be holding an in-person, full-day workshop in Craigavon, focused on addiction, complex needs and dual diagnosis within the context of homelessness.
The workshop will be held at the Civic & Conference Centre, running from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Frontline staff working across the statutory, voluntary, community and private homelessness sectors regularly support people with multiple and intersecting needs, including addiction, mental ill health and complex trauma. Workforce survey feedback has highlighted a strong demand for training in this area, with staff identifying the need for practical learning that can be applied directly within day-to-day roles.
This interactive full-day workshop – facilitated by ASCERT – will explore addiction, complex needs and dual diagnosis in a practical and meaningful way. The session will focus on building understanding and confidence when supporting individuals experiencing homelessness alongside co-occurring conditions.
The workshop will explore practical themes including understanding addiction, complex needs and dual diagnosis, recognising signs, risks and barriers to engagement, and developing effective approaches to communication and support. It will also cover appropriate responses, boundaries, referral pathways and the importance of multi-agency working. Participants will have opportunities for discussion, shared learning and networking with others working across the sector.
Participants should leave the session with increased knowledge, confidence and realistic tools that can be applied immediately within their workplace when supporting people experiencing homelessness and multiple disadvantage.
As with all NI Frontline Network events and workshops, this session is entirely free to attend for staff working directly with people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. All we ask is that you are signed up to the Northern Ireland Frontline Network newsletter.
Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure as many organisations as possible can benefit, a maximum of four places per organisation will apply. A waiting list will be held should additional places become available.
