This training is not one to missed and will be extremely useful and practical for those working in services supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Participants will gain a full understanding of The Ladder4Life framework approach which was initially developed as part of the Fulfilling Lives project in homelessness services in Newcastle and Gateshead and has since been used to help support individuals reach and achieve their goals. You can learn more about the framework: HERE.
Strength-based practice is a social work theory, which is a client-led and focused on future outcomes and strengths that people bring to a problem or crisis.
Using Dr Ray Middleton’s Ladder4Life approach, participants will be introduced to a strengths-based model which they can use alongside clients to help them identify key goals and aspirations. The framework allows staff and clients to develop an in-depth support plan together to enable clients to achieve their ‘best futures’.
Participants will not only learn about the Ladder4Life framework but will be taught the essential; skills for implementing it into practice including motivational interviewing techniques. Furthermore, participants will gain insight into the stories we tell and believe about ourselves, that impact our motivation, and in turn gain an understanding of how reframing our narratives can help to promote change by drawing on a range of theory and reflecting on the context of homelessness.
In this training session you will achieve the following:
The skills and techniques taught through this training will help you in the assessment and support planning process. You will also be given practical tools and resources on the day which you can take back to your job and use in your practice.
Additionally, participants will get free access to two smartphone apps to help embed and remember the key learning points, as well as visual reminders on a postcard to take away with them.
This training is ideal for anyone working in a ‘support’ role, be that accommodation based or floating. Although this training is tailored to those working with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, the key skills provided in this course are transferable to anyone working to improve the wellbeing and futures of individuals and families, particularly those at risk of exclusion, trauma or marginalisation.
Dr Ray Middleton has worked in the homelessness sector for over 30 years managing a variety of services for people facing multiple disadvantages with combinations of unmet needs around homelessness, addiction, mental health and complex trauma histories. Ray has lived experience of overcoming the kind of problems associated with experiencing trauma, such as addiction and mental health problems, and homelessness which has motivated him to work in this area for three decades. He draws on this experience in his training to share what he has learnt with others to improve outcomes for people facing homelessness and multiple disadvantages.
