Compassionate Conversations Belfast Workshop

A challenging aspect of working in homelessness can be knowing how to handle conversations with people who are facing major difficulties in their lives, including with those facing the end of life. Talking with others helps to ease feelings of being overwhelmed, social isolation and loneliness. However, these conversations can take a toll on the staff themselves.
To help equip frontline staff with the tools needed to manage these conversations, we are teaming up with Compassionate Communities. Funded by Health and Social Care in NI, Compassionate Communities is committed to changing attitude and behaviour towards life, age, death and loss through raising awareness and education in partnership with individuals, communities and organisations.
‘Compassionate Conversations’ is a 2-hour skill-based workshop where you will learn about the power of compassion in helping you to support others while also maintaining your emotional wellbeing.
The session explores how to hold a deep conversation with someone who is struggling with challenging emotions. The emphasis is on deep listening skills that enables you to understand another’s journey, their thoughts, and feelings.
You will learn to hold a person in a supportive, non-judgmental compassionate place; that empowers them to see their way forward and enables them to process difficult emotions.
We are holding two workshops in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry for frontline staff in the homelessness sector on Tuesday 22 August in Belfast (Assembly Buildings Conference Centre) and Wednesday 23 August in Derry/Londonderry (City Hotel) from 1-3pm. They are FREE to attend, and lunch will be provided.
Booking is essential – as places are limited, please book as soon as possible. On this occasion, we are restricting the number of staff who can attend from each project to a maximum of three places each. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
