Volunteers with FareShare NI, tackling food poverty in Northern Ireland by collecting surplus food from industry and redistributing it to charities. Picture Mal McCann
FareShare in NI is currently recruiting warehouse volunteers to help at our busy depot in Mallusk. If you have time to dedicate each week, would like to learn new skills and meet new people, then volunteering for FareShare might be ideal for you.
The FareShare project in Northern Ireland is operated by Homeless Connect. As part of this project, we re-distribute surplus food to over 170 charities, schools and community groups throughout Northern Ireland on a weekly basis, but we just couldn’t do this without the help of our warehouse volunteers.
As a warehouse volunteer, your responsibilities would be to:
- Help offload surplus food from trucks and vans arriving at the warehouse
- Sort food into correct crates and sections within the warehouse
- Review orders from different charities & community groups
- Stack orders onto flatbeds or into cages ready to be picked up by FareShare vans
- Help load orders onto FareShare vans, ready for delivery to end users
Our warehouse is open for deliveries 5 days a week, Monday to Friday and we are looking for volunteers who can dedicate a minimum of four hours per day, as many days as you are able throughout the week.
If you would like to be a part of the FareShare in NI team, please contact our volunteers coordinator Siobhan Rocks on 07990043523 or via email at siobhan.rocks@fareshareni.org.uk You can also apply to be a volunteer online by clicking here.
