Homelessness Awareness Week is taking place this year from 6-12th December. Each year we use this week to highlight the work being carried out by the homelessness sector and create awareness of the challenges being faced by people living with homelessness.
This year the theme for the week is #StartTheConvo which aims to address the stigma attached to homelessness. The themes chosen by the Homelessness Provider Group are around mental health, homelessness is never a choice, hidden homelessness and hostels are not homes.
We are asking our members and the wider public to get behind Homelessness Awareness Week. Whether that is learning more about how mental health is a contributing factor towards homelessness, grabbing a cuppa with a group to discuss how homelessness is not always obvious or holding a workshop that explores a stigma theme. Why not also tie your activity into a fundraising event to help raise some much-needed funds for one of our member organisations who work tirelessly in tackling the causes of homelessness?
To support the activities planned, we have produced a toolkit for our members. Here you will find how you can communicate about the week, some posts you can include on social media to raise awareness and the official logo for the week.
Regularly check our social media channels to find out what is happening, including the All-Party Group on Homelessness event we are supporting on Monday.
